Founded in 1953, the Samaritans now have 20,000 volunteers responding to around 10,000 calls for help – day or night – 365 days a year. They offer support to anyone who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.

In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, Samaritans work with people who are going through a difficult time and train others to do the same.

During that time, tens of thousands of items have been donated, with 2020’s appeal alone resulting in gifts being shared out between more than 630 children and young people – including care leavers.
