This is an exciting and rare opportunity to progress from sales into sales management. The career potential is exceptional for the right person and there will be a valuable executive salary package, which includes a company car or car allowance, bonus scheme and other professional benefits. We are looking for an ambitious, successful technical sales leader who would like to take a decisive step into ‘sales focused’ general management role with a well-known international group. It’s the opportunity to lead the organisation’s Malaysian sales operation in all its respects, driving profitable sales growth within the region.
The role will fully utilise your existing commercial and technical skills while allowing you quickly to develop your wider general management abilities and remit.
THE COMPANY
Our client is a successful, profitable, privately owned manufacturing company that designs and manufactures mechanical engineered components for customers worldwide with an engineering heritage spanning over 100 years, the group has a turnover in excess of £200 Million globally.
The business already has operations throughout America, UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Powerful R&D and custom manufacturing capabilities have propelled the company to the forefront of its technical field, with excellent service delivering a winning market share.
THE ROLE
Full responsibility for all business activity throughout the Malaysian region;
- Extensive selling, face to face with customers (50%) with the remaining time spent at Singapore HQ (50%);
- Spearheading sales growth, with a view to increasing turnover. Currently $12M;
- Personal responsibility for managing and developing key accounts and leading high-value bids (from pre-sales discovery to presentation);
- Continue to develop sales throughout Renewable Energy, Marine, Metallurgy, Chemical and Petrochemical, whilst identifying growth markets;
- Work closely with the Regional Director to ensure the strategic growth objectives are successfully achieved;
- Operational responsibility for field sales, customer support, operations and administrations with 18 directs reports throughout and 20 shared reports (matrix structure);
- Strategic responsibility for sales targets, yearly budgets, market development, increased product awareness (in cooperation with the group’s R&D arm);
- Coaching and development of the sales and marketing team, both face to face and remotely;
- Membership of the global management team, contributing to the strategic direction of the business.
THE CANDIDATE
- Scientific or engineering degree (or equivalent working knowledge);
- Impressive industrial sales/sales management record, ideally selling custom components or solutions to major organisations;
- An analytic, people manager type with a passion for selling technical products;
- Strong commercial management abilities, including bid preparation, team leadership and key account management;
- Experience of sales budgeting and forecasting;
- A clear aptitude for general management and an interest in learning new skills;
- Willingness to travel regularly.
